Last time I was in Berlin, the most predominate feature throughout the former East German side was scaffolding. There's still scaffolding around the Brandenburg Gate, but now it's cranes that dominate the skyline. This area was destroyed during WWII and split by the wall shortly thereafter. It is now filling rapidly with shiny new buildings.
